VCV Rack 2 v2.0.0

Patch together, in real time

Rack Multiplayer turns VCV Rack 2 into a shared studio: one person hosts a session, shares a short invite code, and everyone builds the same patch together — modules, cables, knobs, and live cursors all stay in sync.

Build patches together

Everything you already do in Rack — now with everyone in the room.

Real-time patching

Add or move modules, drag cables, and turn knobs — every change relays to everyone in the session instantly, so you're all building the same patch at once.

Invite codes

Hosting hands you a short 6-character code. Share it, a friend types it in, and they're in — no port forwarding, no IP addresses, no setup.

Live cursors

See everyone's labeled cursor glide across the rack in real time. Presence is independent of editing rights, so you always know who's working where.

Roles & permissions

Host, cohost, driver, normal, and spectator roles, plus a session lock that flips between an open jam and a one-person-drives workflow.

Host-authoritative sync

The host's patch is the source of truth. Joiners get a full snapshot on arrival, and periodic reconciliation heals any drift over flaky connections.

Auto-reconnect

Connection drops are survivable — the module reconnects and re-syncs to the host's state, so a blip doesn't end the session.

Install in a minute

Drop in the prebuilt plugin, then make an account and log in.

1 Download the plugin

Grab the .vcvplugin for your OS from the latest release , then drop it into your Rack 2 user plugins folder and restart Rack.

  • Windows Multiplayer-2.0.0-win-x64.vcvplugin %LOCALAPPDATA%\Rack2\plugins-win-x64\
  • macOS Multiplayer-2.0.0-mac-arm64.vcvplugin ~/Library/Application Support/Rack2/plugins-mac-arm64/
  • Linux Multiplayer-2.0.0-lin-x64.vcvplugin ~/.local/share/Rack2/plugins-lin-x64/

Rack Multiplayer is distributed directly — it is not on the official VCV Library. The module appears under the Multiplayer brand after a restart.

2 Then create an account

A small online lobby finds sessions and verifies identities. You register once and stay logged in between sessions.

  1. Add the Multiplayer module to your rack, and on the login screen click Register.
  2. Enter a nickname, email, and password, then verify your email via the link you're sent.
  3. Back in the module, log in — you're ready to host or join a session.

New sending domain, so the first email sometimes lands in spam — there's a Resend button if you need it.
